Module 5: Making Skills Development Tangible - Cumulative Learning
Learning is worthwhile
Efforts to learn prove to be worthwhile when the pupils can sense the progress in their skills development. Their self-confidence increases at the same time.
Individual knowledge network
Skills development refers to integration of new into existing knowledge. This occurs in paths individualised to a great extent. The learners weave their entirely personal knowledge network similar to spider webs that can differ from one another in many details. The goal of the lessons is to make important structural nodes visible, without paralysing the pupils in a ramified network.
Making networks visible
Larger structures become visible if one views horizontally lying areas from a distance. This can be achieved in the lessons by pausing and reflecting upon the knowledge attained. It can be astonishing for teachers and pupils to discover the meshwork of knowledge and ability, in which the task and its solution are embedded.
